This won’t be possible for every
household – many people live in apartment blocks – but for those who have a bit
of outside space, install a water tank to collect rainwater and use it to water
the garden. My neighbour has his connected to the toilet system, which uses the
rainwater for flushing and when the tank is dry it reverts back to the regular
water supply. Tank water can be used for hand washing your car or scrubbing
down the patio. Whenever you have a need for water outside the house, think
about using the water from your tank, increasing your self-sufficiency and
looking after the planet.
