1000 Flowers for the Planet - #425 Eradicate Dangerous Weeds
Here in Australia we have unique flora and fauna that can be
damaged by the introduction of weeds. Noxious weeds can endanger our ecosystem,
spread beyond control, and have environmental, social and economic impacts.
Asparagus fern, lantana, prickly pear, blackberry, and arum lily are few of the
very common plants that are on the list of weeds of significance. There are
many, many more.
What we can do to help the Australian environment is educate
ourselves, plan our gardens well, consult lists of plants that should not be
included in our gardens and do our best to remove any we find currently growing
in our garden and dispose of them correctly. Education is key. Make sure you
help protect the beauty of Australia’s natural flora, and if you live anywhere
else in the world, find out what problems exist in your corner of the planet
and what you can do to help.
