1000 Flowers for the Planet - #371 Choose the Right Air Conditioner

1000 Flowers for the Planet - #371 Choose the Right Air Conditioner

Having air conditioning installed is more involved than simply phoning up a company and having the cheapest unit delivered. You need to research the correct air conditioner for your circumstances. What you install will depend on the area you need to cool, its size and position, whether your home is brick or weatherboard, has bare floors or carpet, how big the windows are and which way they face. There’s no point installing something that is too big for the area, or too small to do the job properly.
Find the right air conditioner for your space and then find the right person to install it to ensure the job is done correctly. Only one kilogram of fluorocarbon refrigerant leaking into the atmosphere is the equivalent of two tonnes of carbon dioxide, so it’s really important to ensure your air conditioner is installed correctly and always functions properly.
‘Thought’ is usually the missing ingredient when considering our planet and how we affect it. Bother to think about choosing the right air conditioner, then bother to learn how to run it and maintain it. Re-read the manual each year for a quick reminder on best practice and be gentle on the planet.

Couldn't have said it better. Indeed, always choose the right AC, not just in terms of cooling capability, but also in terms of what is environmentally sound. It pays to be aware of the environmental footprint that is created by the use of old units, not to mention their being energy inefficient. All in all, the benefits of having newer, more energy-efficient units far outweigh their cons.
